The Cultural Olympiad
On Saturday 25 July the House Mill opened specially as part of the Cultural Olympiad at the request of Heritage Link who were running a 'Discover the Greenway' programme. “Discovering Places” is one of the major projects of the London 2012 Olympiad, and we were pleased to be included. As this was a Saturday and thus outside of our usual opening times we were delighted to see so many visitors to Three Mills Island, and to welcome many of them into the House Mill for a tour.
The Story of Three Mills

Live interview on BBC Radio
On Sunday 28 June, BBC Radio London were at the Mill - we told the story of "Three Mills Island" as part of the Mayor's month long initiative to tell "The Story of London", and the BBC ran a live broadcast direct from the House Mill. The Interviewer was Jim Weeble, who obviously loved the Mill, and the radio presenter was Lesley Joseph, who has worked at the Film Studios and remembered it all very fondly.
Euston “Arch” Stones
As British Waterways was planning the construction of Three Mills Lock in Prescott Channel, various sources mentioned that remains of the Euston Arch were thought to be in the vicinity. It used to mark the entrance to the 1833 Euston Station, but was demolished in 1962 despite a massive public outcry. A few stones were found during the work to the lock and some more will be retrieved shortly under the eager eye of Dan Cruickshank, representing the Euston Arch Trust and English Heritage.
The Three Mills Partnership
We are delighted to report that British Waterways has sponsored the creation of the Three Mills Partnership which was publically launched on 23 June 2009.

Danger UXB
An unexploded bomb was found on 2 June 2008 in the Prescott Channel during the works to build a new lock. The whole of the Three Mills area had to be immediatly evacuated. The Bomb Disposal Squad, the Royal Engineers, worked around the clock over the next five days to deal with the threat, successfully we are glad to say. |
